Steve Christman competed in twenty Cup Series events in his career. All of those came in 1987, when Christman did a full-time schedule.

He made his debut at Richmond, starting 20th and finishing 29th in a car owned by Tom Winkle. Christman continued to drive the #62 AC-Delco Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 Aerocoupe for the rest of the year, making twenty of the twenty-nine races. He would earn a career-best 11th place finish in his return to Richmond. He finishing 27th in 1987 points
